Madden NFL 26 continues EA’s long-running tradition of featuring one of its most popular game modes: Madden Ultimate Team (MUT). Through MUT, players build a customised roster using collectable player cards and strategy items. The goal is to construct a powerful, well-balanced squad which can compete in both solo challenges and player-vs-player modes.
At the core of MUT is its in-game currency: coins. Coins allow you to buy players, items, packs, basically all the things needed to upgrade your lineup. How quickly you earn and manage coins plays a major role in how competitive your team becomes. Although Madden 26 does not operate too differently from Madden 25 with regard to coins, it can seem a bit daunting as a brand-new player.
What Is Ultimate Team?

Ultimate Team was originally introduced in the Madden series during Madden 10. This was following on from a successful debut in EA’s football/soccer-based FIFA 09. Since then, it has grown into one of EA’s flagship modes across its sports titles. While EA FC (formerly FIFA) has a different structure and economy, the underlying idea is the same across both games: collect players, upgrade your squad, and compete across a range of modes using your own custom-built team.
MUT is completely free to access; there is no additional cost to accessing what is just a standard mode within Madden 26. Additionally, every player can progress their team using standard gameplay options and not having to spend a penny.
You can, however, speed things up by paying money, either by purchasing field passes from EA, which lead to better in game rewards, or directly buying points and coins from third party retailers. This works very much in the same way as EA’s other games, so if you’ve ever purchased an FC 26 boost, you should be familiar with how it all works.
Earning Coins and Rewards in MUT 26
Below are the key methods most players use to build their coin balance and progress efficiently in MUT 26.
Regular Play
On the MUT 26 home screen, players can choose between Challenges, Events, VS CPU, and Head-to-Head (H2H) modes. These are the bread-and-butter ways to earn coins.
Solo Challenges are short games against the CPU, often tied to ongoing programs and promos. These challenges reward “stars” for meeting performance goals. The more stars you earn, the more milestone rewards you unlock, typically coins and packs. They are ideal for players who want consistent rewards without facing online opponents.
Events are time-limited modes featuring unique house rules, which can pit you against real players or the CPU. Due to their limited number, they can often result in generous rewards compared to other modes. The Vs CPU mode consists of standard games against AI opponents at various difficulty levels. It’s a great place to start for new players not wanting too much of a challenge.
H2H is where MUT becomes competitive as it sees you take on other MUT players and their carefully crafted teams. H2H Seasons let you compete through a season format, trying to earn your way into the playoffs. Ranked Play, meanwhile, awards a unique player item depending on their rank. Players can earn very decent rewards through this, even if they do not have the best record. There is also the Play-A-Friend (PAF) mode, which lets you challenge friends directly.
You will earn more coins by winning H2H matches, but you do not walk away empty-handed in defeats.
Field Pass
Field Passes act as Madden’s version of a battle pass. As players complete objectives, they earn XP that unlocks tiered rewards.
- Season Field Pass: Every season features a large reward track that includes coins, packs, and player cards. You can preview every reward in advance.
- Free vs. Premium Rewards: Most levels offer free rewards, though a premium pass unlocks additional items.
- Objective Types: Daily, weekly, and program-specific objectives all grant XP. Some challenges also tie into Solo Seasons and offer large XP bonuses.
Field Passes are worth checking frequently. Completing even a moderate number of objectives can unlock tens of thousands of coins. The more tasks you finish, the better the payoff.
Auction House: Flipping & Set Crafting
The Auction House is one of the most skill-based coin-earning methods and can be extremely profitable for players willing to monitor market trends. With flipping, the basic idea is to buy undervalued cards and sell them for profit.
- Use market-tracking websites or community tools to check average prices.
- Look for cards listed below market value via late-auction snipes or cheap Buy Now listings.
- Always factor in the 10% auction house tax on every sale to ensure your flip remains profitable.
Card prices often spike or crash during promos, pack drops, and hype cycles. Smart traders take advantage of these patterns and can feasibly double their investment (if not more) if they buy at the right time.
Crafting sets can be a slower but safer method. It involves buying the cards needed to complete a set as cheaply as possible. After crafting, if the reward player sells for more than the combined cost of the pieces, you earn coins. Profit margins through this tend not to be great, but the risk also tends to be lower, and they are very repeatable.
You can find videos online about the best crafting methods, but just remember that once a set becomes too popular, its profitability usually drops.
Quick-Selling Unwanted Items

Quick selling lets you instantly convert unwanted cards and items into coins (platinum cards) or training points (regular cards). This is ideal for clearing out space or cashing in low-value items. Before quick selling, always compare the auction value first. Many cards sell for more than their quick-sell amount, especially if they are needed in popular sets.
Buying Points
Players can purchase MUT Points either in-game or through approved retailers. Packs can be bought using these points, and many premium packs include sellable items that can significantly boost your coin balance. Purchasing points helps reduce grinding, but note that points cannot be used in the Auction House.
Buying Coins
As is the case with EA FC 26, some players choose to buy coins directly from third-party sellers, and this often works out cheaper than buying points. You select your platform (PS5, Xbox, or PC) and the amount of coins you want. While this is the fastest way to upgrade your team, approach it carefully, as it is technically against EA’s terms of service. Most players who buy coins do so without issue, but you do run a small risk, especially if buying huge quantities.
